Die Da Ke

Die Da Ke is a term used to describe the medical specialty or science of healing trauma type injuries with Traditional Chinese Medicine primarily using oral and external modalities, like herbal medicine, acupuncture, and physiotherapy. Dit Da Ke is a science to treat injuries such as bruises, Qi and blood stagnation, and more serious injuries such as broken bones, fractures and dislocations. It is sometimes referred to a as Chinese Trauma Orthopedics.

Before I continue, the word Die Da Kē (notice the hyphen over the “e” this is pronounced “Kuh”) is a Mandarin word written in Pinyin meaning fall, hit, beat specialty medicine. So it is not an actual medicine but a method or science of treating trauma injuries. This word can be broken down in Chinese the following way: “please note, I have left off  hyphens and other accents associated with the Pinyin language”

跌打 or Die Da meaning fall, heat, beat

科 or Kē meaning a specialty medicine

跌打科 Die Da Ke

Our Specialty at East Meets West Intl is to use the external modalities of Die Da Ke to treat trauma type injuries both acute and chronic. Conditions that are not treated properly in the acute stage become chronic and are more difficult to treat as time progresses. These situations require specific external liniments for treatment in China they are called Die Da Jiu, meaning fall, hit wine or Die Da Yao meaning fall, hit medicine.

Where Did the Word Dit Da Jow Come From?

In the West we are used to the word Dit Da Jow which is mostly a Cantonese word but not completely, as Jow is not a word in Mandarin or Cantonese. Let me explain below:

Dit is a Cantonese word meaning “Fall Down” “Fall Forward”.

Da is Mandarin and Daa is Cantonese which means “to beat / to strike / to hit / to break”.

Jiu is wine in Mandarin and Zau is wine in Cantonese.

So over time the word Jow  was from the words Jiu and Zau, both meaning wine.

You can read more about the meaning of Dit Da Jow at this page here

We use the word Dit Da Jow almost exclusively on this website as it is the most commonly known way here in the West.

Shaolin Dit Da Jow and Iron Palm

One of the most powerful healing Die Da Ke external liniments is the Shaolin Dit Da Jow, known in China as Shaolin Die Da Yao Xiang Jing, this external liniment is used for a variety of trauma issues including bruises, sprains, sore or pulled muscles and other trauma type injuries.  Injuries can occur from martial arts training, car accidents, work related accidents and of course incidents that happen at home, like stubbing your toe on a table leg. Crazy things happen all the time.

When dealing with bone, tendon or ligament injuries the main Die Da Ke external strategy is using liniments like Shaolin Ying Da Li Tan Tieda Yao or Tie Ba Zhang, these are also known here in the West as Iron Palm liniments. These liniments can heal and prevent injuries to the bone, tendon, ligament and connective tissue. Our Shaolin Ying Da Lin Tieda Yao is our most popular Iron Palm Liniment that we sell, it is very unique in its pain relieving, healing and conditioning powers.

Using Die Da Ke strategies like applying Dit Da Jow is one of the best ways to treat a fresh injury, just apply the liniment over the injured area several times per day and watch the magic happen. Very serious injuries might require using the Dit Da Jow as a compress, we have a whole page dedicated to this here on our website.
