Update April 2019
E Mei Shan is available again as it was taken off the market due to some problems with the factory not being able to pass some FDA manufacturing guidelines for import into the United States. It is now manufactured by a new company in China with one change to the product. It no longer has Methyl Salicylate as an active ingredient, which helps with the warming effect of the plaster.
I have not tried it yet but I will shortly and will update this page with my opinion, and update this page.
One plaster that still has Methyl Salicylate ( actually a higher percentage than the E Mei Shan) along with some other potent herbs is the Zhuang Gu Feng Shi Plaster, this has been my go to plaster for awhile now. You can check them out at our online store.

If you are not familiar with what a herbal medicated plaster is, I will explain briefly. It is like a small piece of cloth and latex rubber combined and one side is saturated with a herbal liniment compound. But it is designed to be dry and have the ability to really stick. When applied it adheres like a second piece of skin and the herbal blend starts to penetrate and the healing process begins.
In order to get maximum benefit from a plaster you need to follow these three things.
1) Apply the patch to a clean dry area.
2) Make sure the center of the patch is applied over the center of the injured area. You can find the center by pressing your finger over the injured area and the most painful spot would be your center point.
3) Make sure all edges of the plaster are tight to the skin, rub the edges several times with your finger to make sure.
Important
If you are using it on severe muscle spasms or muscle pulls use ice the first 24-48 hours after the injury then use the plaster.
If you are applying to a area with hair, you might want to shave that spot to prevent pain when removing.
I always leave the patch on until the oils from the skin loosen up the plaster then I remove it all the way. Since the plaster is like a second skin you can shower with it on without any problems.
For the temporary relief of minor aches and pains of muscles and joints associated with simple backache, arthritis, bruises and strains.

can any one recommend a plaster of the same quality and effectiveness as the no longer available E Mei Shan plasters ?
The E Mei Shan will be available in the future from what we have been told. The manufacturing company had some issues with the FDA regarding supplying test results on residual solvent levels, so a hold has been placed on imports, this should be resolved in the near future. In the meantime the Hua Tuo plaster is similar in its effectiveness.
