Healing Horse Tendon Injuries With Dit Da Jow
Healing Horse Tendon Injuries (Bowed Tendons) with Dit Da Jow has been very successful with the proper combination of liniments. By combining a special blend of our Dit Da Jow and Iron Palm liniment. Over the years we have had several horse owners purchase our kits and combine the two liniments together and apply to the injured tendon.
Just recently we have a customer in Australia who owns a 2 year old race horse who suffered a tendon tear to the front leg. Due to being a race horse the one concern she had was the herbs used in either liniment could not be part of the racing rules banned substances. The ingredients that are banned in Australia pertaining to racing are the following.
Camphor, Menthol and Capsaicin
Other herbs that could pose possible problems are:
Oil of Wintergreen
Methyl Salicylate
Sarapin
Saralgyl(pitcher plant extract)
Cedar oil
Only the Dit Da Jow liniment kit has Camphor, so we substituted that herb with another herb that possesses similar properties and prepared the kit as usual. We are happy to say after 8 weeks of application prior to and after mild workouts, the tendon is completely healed after an ultrasound scan was taken and reviewed. The Vet also mentioned that there was no scar tissue in the middle of the tendon with a very slight amount on the outside of the tendon. This is great news as he can now resume normal workouts and continue his racing career.

As you can see the tendon is bowed out causing pain and discomfort when running at medium to high speed. The Dit Da Jow and Iron Palm liniment combination healed the tendon in 8 weeks.
The healing protocol was combining each liniment at a 50/50 ratio and applying this blend on the injured tendon and then apply down the whole leg from the knee down to the hoof and on both front legs. After the liniment dried the legs were wrapped for protection. This was done prior to and after light workouts.
Another positive aspect of healing horse tendon issues with Dit Da Jow is that this does not blister the skin of the horse like a lot of horse liniments do and can even be applied without gloves if you wish. Below is a picture of each kit prepared in glass jars.
