Dit Da Jow has so many healing qualities that it is important to know how to take full advantage of them. Knowing how to use Dit Da Jow as a compress is one of those ways. To use Dit Da as a compress you need the following:
1) Sports Tape (Latex Free)
2) Cotton Gauze
3) Plastic Food Wrap ( Saran Wrap)
4) Our Authentic Dit Da Jow or Iron Palm Liniment ( both can be used together at a 50/50 ratio for serious injuries)
Step One: Make sure the injured area is clean and dry.
Step Two: Measure out and cut the amount of gauze needed to cover the injured area, I like to double up and sometimes triple fold the gauze so it is a little thicker(double layer, triple layers)
Step Three: Saturate the gauze completely with your liniment and apply it over the center point of the injury.
Step Four: Cut a piece of food plastic wrap large enough to cover the gauze and also overlaps it by an inch or more on all sides.
Step Five: Start wrapping the plastic wrap with the sports tape. Depending on the area and size of the injury you can wrap the tape 360 degrees around the injury or if not possible wrap enough tape to prevent it from falling off or allowing any liniment to seep out. That’s it you are all done.
I like to leave on this compress for at least 6-8 hours if possible, overnight is perfect. The advantage of this method is that it forces the liniment into the dermis with very little evaporation so the area stays moist with the healing liniment for quite awhile. This is a great method for acute injuries with lots of swelling and chronic injuries that do not seem to heal. When you remove your compress wait a few hours then repeat if necessary.
If you are using a Dit Da Jow other than ours then make sure it is not a very warm or hot liniment before applying the compress to an acute injury as it can cause more swelling. Our Authentic Dit Da Jow and Iron Palm liniment is closer to neutral in herbal healing properties making it suitable for acute and chronic problems.
Using Dit Da Jow As A Fomentation
A fomentation is basically an herbal extraction, infusion or decoction applied externally using a piece of cloth, gauze, or towel, always using natural fibers such as cotton or wool but alternating hot and cold applications. This is a nice way to increase circulation to an injured area so you will need your liniment hot and cold. To apply a fomentation you will need to warm up some of your liniment on the stove in a small glass or stainless steel saucepan to approx 125-150 degrees and apply as mentioned above. Generally you leave it on for 20-30 minutes then apply a cold liniment that has been refrigerated, leave the cold on for 20-30 minutes then repeat the process alternating between hot and cold as many times as your time allows. You can end the day with a compress and leave on overnight if you wish.
How To Use Dit Da Jow As A Poultice
A poultice is similar to a compress but the only difference is you are using some of the actual herbs in your jar, this is assuming of course you made your own Dit Da Jow or Iron Palm and are not using a ready made liniment. To prepare a poultice you will need to scoop out some of the herbs and liniment from the bottom of the jar with a ladle and place it either on the injured area or on your gauze. Now wrap the injured area with the gauze making sure the herbs are centered over the injured area, multiple wraps of the gauze might be necessary to keep the herbs in place. Now wrap the gauze with food plastic wrap and then with the sports tape. Leave the poultice on for 6-8 hours. You can repeat this again after waiting a few hours after you remove the poultice.
All of these methods are extremely effective so give them a try if the need arises.
