San Huang San|Herbal Ice
San Huang San also known as Sanhuang San is a powder referred to as “Herbal Ice”, this formula translated means “Three Yellow Emperors Powder”. The actions of this formula is to purge fire and heat, cool the blood and reduce swelling associated with blood stasis. Originally this formula was to be taken internally but has evolved into a external use formula.
San Huang San Application
The original formula as listed in the “Clandestine Essentials from the Imperial Library” had four ingredients not three and we use the 4 ingredient formula, this extra herb really kicks this great formula into overdrive.
External Use Only!
This formula is powdered and can be made as a liniment with alcohol. Then you would soak a piece of gauze or cloth into the liniment, apply it over the injured area and wrap that with more gauze or an ace bandage.
Another way that it can applied, is to mix 15-30 grams of powdered herbs with Aloe Vera(read below) 1 or 2 egg whites until you get a thick paste like consistency, not runny. Then apply this over the injured area and repeat the same steps mentioned above.
Some customers make it with Vaseline to apply like a ointment. Just add your Vaseline (equal herb amount- 1:1 ratio) into a small pan, glass is desirable, melt down the Vaseline to a liquid, add the herbs and stir for 10 minutes or so on a low heat setting. After 10 minutes pour out your San Huang into a container with a airtight top. When this formula is made into a ointment or paste it is referred to as “San Huang Gao”.
How to Make San Huang Gao In 8 Easy Steps
San Huang San when made into a paste is a great and sometimes even better substitute than ice, we laid out eight easy steps below to make a real strong San Huang Gao.
When you need to use just apply a liberal amount on the injured area and wrap up like mentioned above.
I also like to make it with a small amount of our Dit Da Jow so it is highly concentrated and very strong. You should only do this with Dit Da Jow that has cold or neutral properties not a hot Jow, like our Dit Da Jow Liniment Kit.
The San Huang San formula can be used for sprains, strains, swelling and skin rashes. If ice is not available or you do not want to use ice, San Huang San can be used in its place to stop or reduce the swelling to the injured area very quickly.
Due to the cold nature of this formula do not use longer than 48 hours, actually 24-36 hours should be long enough for most injuries. This can be purchased below on our online shopping cart.
