Shaolin Kung Fu Formulas

As requested from our Dit Da Jow Customers, I am posting a few of the most powerful Shaolin Kung Fu injury treatment formulas that you can make yourself. These formulas for hundreds and hundreds of years were kept secret and used by the Shaolin Monks to treat injuries sustained in battle or in training.  Over the many years these formulas were used by many Martial Art styles like Wing Chun, Choy Lay Fut and Tiger Claw. Wing Chun in particular uses these formulas to stop the blood stagnation which occurs in training Chi Sao and Pak Sao.

Always consult with a professional Chinese Herbalist before making and trying any of these formulas.

Shaolin Kung Fu Injury Treatment Formulas — 9 Comments

  1. Your Shaolin dit da jow liniment is just like what I found while in China and works very well on bruises and sore muscles. Can I use it for iron palm training?

  2. I have heard that the monks use white vinegar and not alcohol. Can anyone speak to this?

    • Vinegar (Bai Cu) has been used for certain trauma injuries but not used on a full time basis as it can soften bones with long term use. A variety of vinegars have been used besides white with equal results.

  3. Dr. Nico! Great information. At first I was a bit skeptical if this was authentic. Then I saw several of the formulas. I studied martial arts in China at the Shaolin temple years ago 1989. I saw one of the formulas and it was almost exactly the same except a few things extra my teacher their threw into the mix to dampen my liver fire. Great stuff. Nico…as an herbalist, I am very impressed with your knowledge and prolific knowledge. Keep up the great work. At first the name looked strange depending on pinyin pronunciation, southern dialect not sure. I figured that Dang Gui is probably “dong quai” in pinyin. Without seeing the writing, I am making an assumption. When ordering the kits are the ingredients written out with Latin names, English or Chinese?

    • Dang Gui is Pin-Yin it also can be written as Xi Gui, Gan Gui, Quan Dang Gui, Qin Dang Gui, Yun Dang Gui, Chuan Dang Gui depending on the province from where it was harvested. It is also written in English texts as tangkuei, angelica root, dong quai, Chinese angelica. A lot of herbs written in the older texts are using the Wade-Giles transliteration. Tang Kuei would be the Wade-Giles way of writing Dang Gui. We use both methods when we discuss Chinese herbs.
