Dit Da Jow, The Powerful Healing Liniment
Dit Da Jow
Dit Da Jow (跌打药) the powerful healing liniment used for bruises, sprains and other trauma type injuries. This ancient liniment was popular by the Shaolin Monks over 1000 years ago. Dit Da Jow was the preferred method in the Shaolin Temple to treat injuries sustained in martial arts training. Over the years the formula has been passed down helping people heal from, bruises, sprains and other conditions.
Dit Da Jow is the western name given to this liniment but in China it is referred to as Dieda Yao or Dieda Jiu when translated it loosely means fall/hit medicine or fall/hit wine. The term wine is used because it is made with alcohol but used externally only. Additionally we have a page that explains how the name evolved, you can read it here.
(Shaolin Tie Die Yao Xiang Jing) translated means (“Shaolin Strong As Iron Fragrant Essence Medicine”)
What Does Dit Da Jow Consist Of?
Authentic Dit Da Jow is a unique blend of Chinese herbs, generally in the 15 to 20 range that are combined together. Then soaked (macerated) and shaken (agitation) in a GLASS jar with alcohol, preferably Vodka, generally for 3-4 weeks. After that a little is taken out for daily use and the bulk is left to macerate. It also can be purchased aged and ready made in small glass bottles. Once ready it is applied to the injured area and besides speeding up the healing process it provides some pain relief.

We will cover the theory behind this liniment and Traditional Chinese Medicine further down the page. We want to point out it is based on Traditional Chinese Medicine which dates back close to 5000 years ago and it involves the Yin/Yang theory and the movement of Qi. So why use Dit Da Jow Liniment? Below are just a few of the reasons.
- Bruises
- Sprains
- Arthritis
- Fibromyalgia
- Poor Circulation
- Raynauds Symptoms
- Muscle Pain/Strains
- Shin Splints
Key Actions Of Dit Da Jow
There are 4 different degrees of action for moving blood and breaking up of blood stasis when using Dit Da Jow, they are as follows:
1st Tonify and move blood.
2nd Break up and disperse accumulation in blood stasis.
3rd Unblock the channels and collaterals, and break up accumulation caused by blood stagnation and blood stasis.
4th Invigorate blood circulation and relieve pain.
The blend of different herbs extracted with alcohol enables the above actions and creating a unique healing liniment that one can use for a variety of trauma related injuries.
A important question asked frequently is the heat property of Dit Da Jow. East Meets West Intl Dit Da Jow is neutral in property allowing it to be used right after a injury or when their is swelling. As you know you are not supposed to apply heat to a freshly injured area, this promotes to much blood to the area causing more swelling.
R.I.C.E.
We have all been taught to apply ice to a freshly sprained ankle or trauma. The acronym R.I.C.E comes to mind when dealing with a injury, R.I.C.E.stands for Rest, Ice, Compression and Elevation.
You should first rest the injured area, apply ice, then a mild compression like a wrap followed by keeping the injured area elevated if possible and slow movement when possible, heat is out of the question for at least 24-48 hours, this can vary depending on the severity of the injury.
Authentic Dit Da Jow is perfect to apply since it is not a hot property Jow. Being neutral allows immediate use following a injury, trying to use a hot property Dit Da Jow can cause more harm than good. Hot property Jows are fine for training and conditioning but not recommended for immediate use when one suffers a injury or has bruises, waiting three days after a injury is the best time to apply a Hot Jow.
If you need a hot property Dit Da Jow we a have a classic one right HERE.

Dit Da Jow and Pain
Pain and Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM)
The basic statement about pain, formed almost two thousand years ago in TCM it was stated “if there is free flow, there is no pain; however, if there is a disruption of this free flow then pain occurs”. Here ‘free flow’ refers to the free flow of Qi and Blood. The circulation of Qi and Blood in the body should be constant, just like the continual courses of the sun and moon.
Dit Da Jow The Ultimate Qi Mover
Dit Da Jow was created for the free flow of Qi in the body to heal and at the same time reduce pain. According to TCM, this circulation depends upon the correct, interdependent functioning of the Zang-Fu organs, including the Lung, Heart, Liver and Kidney.
The Lung disperses Qi to every part of the body, and also connects to the blood vessels, thus keeping the Qi and Blood circulating freely in the body. The Heart is in charge of promoting the circulation of Blood in their Vessels.
Liver and Qi
The Liver is in charge of keeping the Qi circulating freely, which in turn keeps the Blood circulating freely. The circulation of Liver-Qi also promotes the digestive functions of the Spleen and Stomach, and this keeps the water passages clear, so preventing the accumulation of Damp in the body.
Kidney
The Kidney is the root of Yang Qi, which warms the Qi and Blood to maintain their free circulation. Moreover, the Kidney also produces Yuan Qi or Original Qi, which is the root energy for all the Zang-Fu organs. Where there is dysfunction of any of these organs, due to the various kinds of pathogenic factors discussed earlier, there will be retardation of the Qi and Blood circulation, eventually causing pain.
Qi and Pain
It should now be clear that pain is mainly a result of disturbances in the Qi and Blood circulation, and may be caused by stagnation of Qi and Blood, or deficiency of Qi and Blood-but why does this disturbance of Qi and Blood flow cause pain?
Which organ is in charge of pain? The reason was stated clearly, two thousand years ago, in the Simple question: ‘all kinds of pain, itching and sores are due to Heart disorder’ (Yellow Emperor’s Classic of Internal Medicine. Why did the ancient texts attribute pain to the Heart? This can be explained as follows.
Heart
The Heart promotes normal Blood circulation in the Zang-Fu organs, Blood Vessels, channels and the tissues. Where the Qi and Blood circulation are disordered, a disturbed feedback will be sent to the Heart. In other words, one can say that the Heart is constantly sensitive to the condition of the Qi and Blood circulation.
Dit Da Jow Comes in Two Basic Forms
When purchasing Dit Da Jow you can receive it in two forms. One is in kit form where you receive a pack of herbs and soak them in a glass jar with alcohol, this for the individual who wants to prepare their own at home in large quantity. The 2nd form is purchasing it ready made in small 2 or 4 ounce bottles. We will discuss this more later in the article or you can watch the video below.

Step By Step- How To Prepare Your Dit Da Jow
In the series of photos below we will will show you step by step on how to prepare your Dit Da Jow or Iron Palm liniment kit.
Step 1
Lay your wrapping flat on your table and add the herbs into the jar. The jar pictured is a 5 liter Bormioli jar, glass must be used as it does not leach chemicals into your liniment like plastic jars .
Step 2
Add your first 1.75 liter bottle of Vodka, Gin will also work.
Step 3
Add your second 1.75 liter bottle of Vodka. If you purchased a Iron Palm kit the last picture shows the herbs added into the jar.
Step 4
After you add all your Iron Palm herbs into the jar, add your first 1.75 bottle of Vodka.
Step 5
Add your second 1.75 liter bottle of Vodka.
Step 6
Top off your jar with a little vodka if you wish, leaving about 2-3 inches of room from the top, this allows the herbs to move around when shaking, this is called agitation and is very important to speed up the extraction process.

Dit Da Jow 5 liter Jar
Seal up your jar or jars and shake for a couple of minutes, do this each day for the first 3-4 weeks then shake a minimum of once or twice a week for a minute or two.
Store out of Sunlight
Keep your jars out of the sun in a convenient location. Do not place near a furnace, hot water heater or other locations that throw off excess heat. I usually place my jars in a closet or in a cabinet.
That’s all their is to it, you just have seen each step necessary to make your Dit Da Jow or Iron Palm liniment. There are other more complicated ways to prepare your Dit Da Jow that requires multiple jars that might save you a weeks time, but this method is easy, requires only one jar and produces a very powerful Dit Da Jow or Iron Palm Liniment.
A couple important tips to making a very powerful liniment is to store your glass jar in a dark cool place out of sunlight, the suns rays will weaken the liniment significantly, so place your jar in a cabinet, pantry or closet.
To clarify this since we get a lot of calls or emails, you do not need to put the jar in a wine cellar or where it is pitch black and very cool. You just need to keep the jar out of direct sunlight, leaving the jar on the kitchen counter in front of a window is not a good spot.
Anywhere out of the sunlight is good but do not set it next to the hot water heater or furnace (winter months) or next to any appliance exhausting hot air like a refrigerator or freezer.
Dit Da Jow Jar Ideas
As mentioned above when making your own Dit Da Jow using a glass jar is of utmost importance so your Dit Da Jow Liniment does not become contaminated while extracting, plastic containers leach chemicals.
So I took a few pictures on where I sometimes buy my jars at a great price and it includes free pickles. I go to Sam’s club and for under $6.50 I get a nice jar with some pickles thrown in. After you empty the jar, wash with hot water and soap, let dry and you are ready to use.

If you want a clamp down type Glass Jar for Your Dit Da Jow check out the Bormioli line of Jars at Amazon
If you purchase from the link above we receive a small remuneration to help with server costs.

Dit Da Jow and Iron Palm liniments being prepared in 5 liter glass Bormioli jars.
Quite a few customers have emailed me and said they purchased the Bormioli Clamp Down Jars and are very happy with them, I was also just told by a customer he purchased his at Crate and Barrel, they are called Fido 5L jars there.
Another Jar to consider especially if you want a Five Liter Jar or larger are these Herb Extraction Jars. These Jars come in Three, Five and Eight Liter sizes, they can be found at most Asian grocery stores. There is also a twelve Liter jar available. Pictured below is the eight Liter Jar.
This particular 8L jar has a opaque plastic seal that goes under the twist on cap. This sealer is supposed to be leach free but I still place 2 pieces of wax paper on top of the jar then I snap on the seal. This insures no liniment touches the seal when shaking.
This is just something I do before twisting on the cap. Even if the liniment does touch the seal it is not enough contact to cause a problem, the bottom part of the jar is the sensitive area. Below is how it looks.

I placed 2 small pieces of wax paper on top of the glass jar then pressed on the opaque seal, the last step is screwing on the cap, pictured below.
Vodka is Used for Extraction By the Process of Maceration
The purpose for extraction is to draw out an herb’s unique organization of chemical components along with its distinctive energetic virtues we need for healing. We must also render these organic idiosyncrasies into a form that is more easily absorbable.
In addition making it more concentrated and more convenient to apply than the original unprocessed form of the plant. Maceration, or soaking a plant in alcohol, is performed to draw into a liquid solution the soluble constituents of the plant.
When a freshly harvested plant is dried, the moisture present in the tissues evaporates. The walls of the cells and the ducts shrink, and at the same time the substances inside the cells previously held in solution by the water crystallize or dry to a solid amorphous mass.
This Changes When Immersed In Alcohol
Later, when this dehydrated plant is immersed in alcohol also known as a menstruum, the above process is reversed. In this instance, the menstruum is absorbed, causing the cells to swell and break, leading to direct contact with the menstruum and the soluble materials inside the cells go back into solution.
That is why certain herbs should not be powdered when making Dit Da Jow since you lose some of the constituents we need for external use.
That is why we stress shaking the jar a couple of times per day during the first 4 weeks, this speeds up the extraction process and also pulls more constituents and molecular compounds from the herbs into the liniment.
Purchase Vodka at the Most reasonable Price
When purchasing your vodka you do not need the most expensive brand, any vodka that is 40% alcohol and 80 proof is perfect. Below is a photo of 1.75 liter bottle of vodka I purchased for $7.99 which I’m sure you can find if you shop around at your local discount grocery or liquor store, wally world always has it for around $10.00-$11.00 in our area.
Some customers prefer Gin to use and that is fine since it is 40% alcohol 80 proof, you can use either one, they both will extract the constituents and compounds from the herbs. 40 % alcohol is a preferred percentage since it does not evaporate to fast thus allowing the Dit Da Jow to be absorbed transdermally.
Shaking Your Jar
Shaking the jar several times a day for the first month or so then shaking several times week speeds up the extraction process. This is very important if you want to use your Jow in 3-4 weeks and this cannot be stressed enough, further down the page we talk about agitation and its importance.
Hundreds of years back a clay pot was used and it was buried in the ground for several months and in some cases for over five years before it was unearthed and used.
The longer the herbs sit the stronger it became, back at that time they used rice wine, since vodka was not available so sitting for a longer period was beneficial for a stronger Jow. Since vodka is available today it provides a faster extraction process if the liniment is shaken often.
Our customers have been telling us since we started selling Dit Da Jow back 1989, that we provide the most powerful authentic Dit Da Jow Liniment Kit they have used and we are proud to say that they are still our customers to this day.
Do Not Use Rubbing Alcohol
It has come to our intention that there are several companies selling ready made Dit Da Jow and Iron Palm liniment that has been prepared using rubbing alcohol. This is very bad and should be avoided at all costs, read our page on using the right alcohol for Dit Da Jow, click here Liniment prepared with rubbing alcohol can become toxic when used regularly.
We do not use rubbing alcohol because it can be toxic if used excessively and evaporates to quickly because of the high alcohol content which by the way is to high for some herbs for proper extraction. Fast evaporation does not allow the liniments properties to be absorbed into the skin.
External Application-How To Apply
This external only liniment is applied to any injured or bruised area and healing the area by removing blood stagnation and making the bruise disappear quickly. This was discovered by the Shaolin Monk herbalists to help heal injuries sustained in training or combat.
If you do purchase Dit Da Jow already made, make sure it is packaged in a glass container. Authentic Dit Da Jow packaged in a plastic bottle is no good since it will leach out the plastic chemicals from the bottle and make the Dit Da Jow worthless, and possibly hazardous, always use GLASS.
Application Times
The best way to use Dit Da Jow if you are training in the martial arts is to apply some to the areas of the body that are going to make contact, lets say if your punching a bag or makawari, apply some to your hands prior to training like 20 to 30 minutes, then apply some more right after training, just enough to fill your palm should be sufficient.
If you are kicking a bag then apply some to your shins and apply enough to cover, the contact area. If you are sparring, then the arms and shoulders should receive an application. We have a whole page dedicated to this just follow this link: How To Apply Your Dit Da Jow
TIP!
Always apply in a downward motion in the direction toward the tips of your extremities
For the everyday person who bruises easily apply twice a day morning and night on the areas you need. I have found it is best to apply and let air dry instead wiping it with a cloth, this will allow for more of the Dit Da Jow to penetrate the skin and help the healing process.
One important question that everybody asks is what do I use to apply the Dit Da Jow? In the beginning most customers just poured a little in the palm of your hands and rubbed it on, that is fine and I do that occasionally.
Great Way To Apply
I found using a one ounce glass applicator bottle with a nylon rollerball works great, these can be found online very easily. I also found using small cotton balls saturated with the liniment and applied works very well, you can even use the cotton ball as a mini compress when secured with a piece of sports tape.
For serious injuries using the Dit Da Jow as a compress is very beneficial, we have a page dedicated to this which you can read here.
Avoid Use on Badly Broken Skin
TIP!
After 3-4 weeks take some of your Dit Da Jow and place in a small glass jar or bottle(2-6 oz) for daily use. Straining is not necessary use a ladle and funnel or turkey baster to add into your jar.
Generally, Dit Da Jow is not used on badly broken skin or bleeding cuts, check with your supplier before applying to any skin that has been cut or broken. This is not so much because it is dangerous but because Authentic Dit Da Jow increases blood flow which is not what you want if you have a bleeding cut.
Use Yunnan Pai Yao first on the cuts or open wounds to stop the bleeding.
When using the Jow on an injury as mentioned above in this article, always apply liberally and let air dry for best results.
If you are pregnant you should consult with your doctor before using.
For serious injuries make a poultice or compress with cheesecloth and wrap with plastic around the wounded area. Soak the cheesecloth enough so it is saturated but not dripping, leave on as long as possible. The plastic will slow down the evaporation and allow the Jow to soak in the skin more efficiently.
The theory behind Dit Da Jow and it’s amazing healing powers is based on TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine). When someone sustains a injury, the Qi is blocked and blood can not travel properly through the injured area, hence pain and what they call blood stagnation.
Move the Qi
Dit Da Jow opens up the flow of blood and Qi to promote healing, plus some of the herbs in the formula take away pain and discomfort. I have seen it take bruises away in less than a day, just amazing stuff. This also great for people who bruise easy, besides healing the bruise it strengthens the underlying blood vessels so you don’t bruise as easily next time.
If you train in any contact sport or just bruise all the time this for you.

Dit Da Jow Side Effects and Contraindications
The great thing about Dit Da Jow is their are no side effects when used as directed. We do not recommend Dit Da Jow use during pregnancy unless you get permission from your health care professional. If you have skin allergies to alcohol then you should not use alcohol as your base, glycerin or apple cider vinegar can be substituted instead, contact us if you wish to do this.
Dry air in the winter months along with alcohol can make your skin drier than usual, if your skin gets to dry just apply some moisturizing cream at bedtime.
If you take blood thinners like Warfarin (Coumadin, Jantoven) or Heparin (Fragmin, Innohep, and Lovenox) then you should not use Dit Da Jow without consulting with your medical professional.
Remember Dit Da Jow is a external liniment and not for ingestion, if you need a internal Dit Da Jow let us know we have several in stock. Sometimes for serious injuries it is good to combine a internal and external formula for faster healing.
Is Dit Da Jow and Iron Palm Liniment the Same?
We receive countless emails asking us if Dit Da Jow is the same as a Iron Palm liniment. So we wanted to clarify this. It seems there are websites selling and promoting liniments that are for Iron Palm training but still refer to them as Dit Da Jow. They are not the same and have different healing properties, while their might be some crossover herbs in either type of kit they are different.
There is a Difference
Authentic Dit Da Jow was created to heal bruises, sprains, contusions, hematomas, reduce swelling and heal other trauma type injuries. Dit Da Jow is also good for sore muscles also referred to as DOMS (delayed onset muscle soreness) and acts as a pain reliever for the above mentioned injuries.

Dit Da Jow and Iron Palm Liniment Kits are distinctly different but they compliment each other greatly.
Authentic Iron Palm is for bones, tendons, ligaments, connective tissue and pain. Iron Palm liniment is also very good for chronic conditions related to the before mentioned areas. One does not need to practice Iron Palm to receive the healing benefits of this liniment.
Below are a couple of photos of bruises/hematomas, the photo on the left should have Dit Da Jow applied, the photo on the right could use both Dit Da Jow and Iron Palm as there could be some injury to the joint.
Iron Palm Liniment Is Different
Iron Palm liniment on the other hand was created to strengthen and heal bones, ligaments, tendons, connective tissue and sinew from injuries and all types of repetitive contact exercises like hitting a punching bag, makawara board, all types of Iron Palm bags or if you are advanced enough in training where you are breaking objects like brick, boards, etc. Another powerful proponent of Iron Palm is the ability to reduce pain quickly.

Pictured are the Dit Da Jow and Iron Palm liniment kits. They each have their own unique healing powers and are different.
These liniments are different in their makeup with a few crossover herbs. Their healing properties are different but can be used together for serious injuries when there is bruising and strained or injured joints, ligaments, tendons, etc.
Can One Liniment Have Both Properties?
We get asked a lot can I just use one liniment for all types of injuries and it is a difficult question to answer the closest liniment that could do this is Tie Ba Zhang Jow, also a Dit Da Jow/Iron Palm formula called Yangshang Tieda Yao is available as a kit that has the healing properties of both and is extremely powerful and popular.
You can also purchase a Dit Da Jow kit and an Iron Palm kit and have two liniments that can heal most injuries if the need arises.
If for example you fall down some stairs and get bruised up the Dit Da Jow would be the answer or let’s say you bang your knee on the side of your end table you might use the Iron Palm for that. Having the flexibility of choosing which liniment to use depending on the situation is priceless.
Now if you have a hematoma and severely sprained and stretched ligaments let’s from a badly sprained ankle, which I have encountered many times playing basketball then a mixture of both liniments combined together is a great way to heal that injury fast.
So please keep in mind the differences in each liniment as it applies to your needs, you can visit our Iron Palm page HERE.
Two more informative posts about the differences between the two liniments are below, the first one is HERE.
And the second one is HERE.

Where to Buy Dit Da Jow
Chinese Herb Shops
Dit Da jow can be purchased at a variety of places. Locally if you have a Chinatown in your area you can usually find a herb shop who can sell you the herbs to make it at home or they have it ready made in small bottles. This can be great as you can get your Dit Da Jow liniment quickly and start benefitting right away.
Over the years I have found this can be a hit or miss, some of the herb packs I have purchased have been really good and some very poor. They generally are very small and make a limited amount of liniment, this is partly based on most herb shops sell the herbs for internal use. When using herbs for external use a larger quantity is needed for any benefit.
While the price might be right, you might only be able to make a quart or two and if you are to extrapolate it out your savings might not be as good compared to other sources.
Online
Online sources have been popular and Amazon and Ebay are two reliable sources, just make sure you are purchasing from a reliable vendor one who has been in business selling Dit Da Jow for a long period of time. In the last couple of years their has been a plethora vendors who jumped on the bandwagon selling inferior quality Dit Da Jow. Some of these kits are sold in plastic bags, some have bugs and many ready made liniments are sold in plastic bottles all of this is not acceptable.
Social Media
Social Media has been a popular way to find sources of Dit Da Jow, Facebook and Pinterest have a lot of vendors talking about and displaying a variety of kits and bottles. When deciding on where to buy your Dit Da jow do your due diligence, call or email the company and ask questions like how long they have been in business, what type of liniment should you purchase for your particular needs.
Final Point on Where to Buy Dit Da Jow
There are a lot of sources for Dit Da Jow some good some shady, getting a reference from a friend or acquaintance is ideal if possible otherwise just do your homework. Since you arrived on our website, please consider us for your Dit Da Jow needs. We have been selling authentic kits since 1988 and take great care in what we do. Please read on and we will explain our process.
Our Dit Da Jow Kits Are Fresh, Big and Powerful
The Authentic Dit Da Jow kits we supply are made with the finest herbs and are meticulously made fresh per each order received. We prepare the herbs so the kit is ready to prepare upon arrival. Contrary to what you might think or have read the herbs must be prepared properly. Some need to be ground to a powder, some need to be bruised and some need to be whole.

No way should you purchase a liniment kit packaged and sitting in a plastic bag for who knows how long.

Freshly prepared Dit Da Jow, no plastic bag contamination, wrapped in Eco-friendly paper.
A lot of kits purchased online today are just herbs thrown in a plastic bag without any preparation and possibly sitting for months. Our kits are prepared properly and are the freshest kits you will find online. Below is an example of how we prepare a couple of herbs.
It is very important that the mixture of herbs due to their aromatic properties are not sitting in a plastic bag for months on end like a lot that are sold online today.
When an order is received it is put in queue and when the order hits the top of the queue it is prepared fresh and shipped. Generally the same day via Priority Mail or USPS Ground Advantage. We email each customer to let them know when their order will be shipped. We also send an email when their order ships with the tracking information.
Animal Free
Our Dit Da Jow is considered Vegan and cruelty free since this Authentic Shaolin Dit Da Jow does not use any animal products or insects in it’s recipe. Unlike many old recipes that used tiger bone or rhinoceros horn for example, this does not and is pure plant based.
We prepare the kits the Old School way using a Mortar and Pestle to grind certain herbs to their proper consistency. I was privileged and fortunate enough to work in a Chinese Herbal Pharmacy in Chicago’s Chinatown in the late 1990’s alongside one of the best Chinese Herbalists to come out of China and learned the proper way to handle and prepare herbs.
None of our kits are bagged in plastic thus one less carbon footprint for the environment. Each kit is prepared fresh and wrapped in recyclable paper right before it is shipped.
No Hi Heat Grinders Used When Preparing Dit Da Jow
Purchasing a kit that is all powdered will just make a clump of worthless herbs in a jar, preventing a proper extraction for external use(more information on this below). Also if the herbs are ground with a high powered motorized grinder, the heat from the blades can diminish the power of the herb. This is due to the heat of the blade during rotation causing damage to the herb.
You can actually smell the herb burning when using a motorized grinder. Try this with any resinous herbs like Mo Yao or Ru Xiang and will notice the resin properties are destroyed. We prepare the kits the old fashion way with a Mortar and Pestle. Thus insuring the herbs are not degraded from the heat of the grinder blades.
Avoid Powdered Herb Kits If Possible
As mentioned above we avoid using herb grinders as the heat from the blades rotating can damage some herbs. When herbs are powdered and they contain resinous herbs like Mo Yao and Ru Xiang they become like sludge as shown below.
When the herbs are this consistency it is very hard to get a good extraction unless the jar is shaken extremely hard, fast and often. This gummy sludge really slows down the the extraction and should be avoided if possible. We are working on an article explaining this further, so keep an eye open for it.

Notice the herbs at the bottom, all clumped up and like sludge, this slows down extraction.

Ready Made Dit Da Jow
Most of us are anxious to start using a new purchase, unfortunately when purchasing a Authentic Dit Da Jow kit you need to wait at least 3-4 weeks before using.
To remedy that situation we have available aged Dit Da Jow ( 4years+) in two and four ounce GLASS bottles for those who would like to start using Dit Da Jow right away. Glass bottles are imperative as glass does not leach plastic chemicals into the liniment.
Freshly Bottled
Just like our Dit Da Jow kits each glass bottle is prepared prior to shipping so no bottle is sitting on the shelf waiting for a customer.
This insures that each bottle contains a constantly aged powerful product. In addition we make sure that each bottle contains some sediment(also referred to as the Marc or dregs) from the main aged batch. See Photo Below
We also add in some extra Camphor (Zhang Nao) in each bottle to increase its effectiveness even more. The Zhang Nao will dissolve into the liniment, this can take anywhere from 1-3 days. See Photo Below
I do not know of any company that offers this service. Most Dit Da Jow sold is bottled in plastic and has been prepackaged months or years in advance with no visible marc.
If you are interested in ordering some of our ready made aged Dit Da Jow bottled in glass and you live in the United States you can order some on our shopping cart.
Important Facts To Remember
“Dit Da” means “fall and strike.” This term refers to a group of formulas developed in Chinese medicine to treat traumatic injury. The formulations vary primarily in whether they clear heat or are warming. Our formula clears heat and is more neutral in properties. Our Authentic Dit Da Jow formula moves blood and Qi to relieve the pain of traumatic injury.
Always use Glass as your container either in kit form or when purchasing ready made Dit Da Jow
The primary treatment principle of our Dit Da Jow is: move blood and transform blood stasis. This in return will help relieve pain and promote healing. Thirteen of the sixteen herbs in this formula have some ability to transform blood stasis and move Qi.
The unique combination of herbs enable this formula to also focus on treating bruising, and swelling. Thus relieving stagnation and allowing the body to direct its energies to healing the trauma.
Looking at the treatment principle from the perspective of the whole organism. It is helpful to remember this ancient Chinese medical axiom. “Tong ze bu tong, bu tong ze tong”—“. When there is flow, there is no pain and when there is pain there is no flow.”
The main focus of our Dit Da Jow Formula serves this principle in the first and early second stage of injury.
Our Liniments Are Full Spectrum
If you notice in our photos or videos, we provide you with the whole herb and not just one part of it or a kit that is all powdered. This enables you to make a Full Spectrum liniment. Full Spectrum is the ability to extract all the chemical constituents from the herbs and not just one constituent or molecular compound from the herb.
Let me give you a example, one key herb in most Dit Da Jow formulas is Chi Shao, using the entire herb gives you the constituents: Paeoniflorin, allifprin, oxypaeoniflorin, paeonol and paeonin. All of them work together to eliminate blood stagnation.
Unfortunately there are herb suppliers who sell only the outer portion or the dust of the herb. Technically it is Chi Shao but really a worthless portion, they do not contain all of the above constituents. Some vendors of Dit Da Jow and other liniments purchase this because it is very cheap and they use them in their kits.
All Herbs are not the Same
I personally was in a herb factory in Shenyang China and saw them packaging the dust remnants of the herb Huang Qi ( Astragali Radix). When I asked why they were doing this, they said it was because that is what the customer wanted and they tried to dissuade the customer to no avail. So never purchase a kit that is all powdered or in very tiny pieces, you really do not know what your getting.
We always purchase our herbs whole and not powdered or in small pieces. If a herb is required to be powdered we do it manually insuring our customers the best possible liniment kit.
Buy Freshly Prepared Dit Da Jow Kits

Try and purchase your Dit Da Jow Kit or herb pack freshly prepared. Pictured is a kit freshly prepared and ready to be wrapped and shipped.
One very important aspect when making your own Dit Da Jow is what to do when you have exhausted all the liniment and are just left with the dregs.
We wrote a short article on the use of a wine press to get everything out of the herbs. Ypu can read about by clicking the link below.
How To Use a Wine Press When You Have Exhausted Your Liniment

Great info! So many sites are stating dit da jow liniment is the same as iron palm liniment or vice versa. Your site explained things perfectly and easy to understand. I deal with bruises a lot so i am going to purchase your dit da jow kit.
Great information, ordered a kit, looking forward to making my own dit da jow at home and saving money since I use it a lot for bruises I get training wing chun. Will be looking at your wing chun kit in the future, heard a lot of good things about it.
I need to to thank you for this wonderful read!! I certainly enjoyed every little bit of it. I have got you book-marked to check out new things you post and new products introduced. Dit da jow has to be one of the best liniments for bruises I have come across.
Thank you for all the excellent information on your site!
Dit da jow is really the best stuff I have found for healing up my bruises as i do old school kung ku training. Myself and my training partners appreciate what you offer both in information and the excellent products you sell. Please keep doing what you do, we appreciate it.
Super information supplied here, I was unaware of the differences in jows and why they should be purchased newly made and not in plastic bags as I have seen online. I bruise easy and now I know I need dit da jow and not iron palm.
I have tried a variety of over the counter dit da jow at different Chinatown stores but none are very strong. After reading this article and purchasing a kit to make myself I was very happy with the results this liniment does an incredible job on healing bruises and helping with muscle spasms which are two issues I deal with often. I think I found the silver bullet with this dit da jow as it works for me where other products I tried did not, just wanted to pass it on and I am recommending your kit to all my friends.
After reading your website, I am unclear if one should use dit da jow or iron palm when working out with weights, do you prefer one or the other?
For sore or strained muscles I would recommend Dit Da Jow. For joint pain like tendonitis I recommend Iron Palm. Actually for overall joint and bone health use Iron Palm.
Thanks for providing such a thorough post about dit da jow, I have used dit da jow for years but did not know to much about it,other than it works. Your website has provided great knowledge about how dit da jow works and the differences between them. I was confused thinking dit da jow and iron palm liniments were the same thing but after reading your site, it was explained and now I understand the differences. After years of buying it already made, I will now purchase your shaolin dit da jow herbal kit and make my own as it sounds very cost effective and straight forward to do.
Frank
The Dit Da Jow you offer is excellent and easier to prepare than I thought. It works very fast on bruises and other contact injuries I get while training in Wing Chun, I think I read it is good for muscle soreness also, is this accurate?
Thanks again for all your help. The kits you made were amazing!! I would like to email you a photo of my jars and if you think it is ok, I’m gonna wait a few days and when the herbs absorb, I will add more vodka, like what is described in the instructions sent with my kits.
Thanks again,
Martin
I’d say this is one of the best articles I’ve read as I have not found such informative information regarding dit da jow anywhere online. Question, I think I remember you writing for Inside Kung Fu back in the early 90’s, is this correct?
Best regards,
Andy
The best jow on the internet is on this site, don’t fall for the fake products sold elsewhere, read all the info here and and on the rest of the site and decide for yourself.
Yes this liniment is fantastic, as a 30+ year practitioner of Wing Chun and JKD I have found dit Da jow and iron palm an important part of my training and teaching. This should be in everyone’s gym bag and school. I highly recommend the dit da jow here from east meets west as they offer the most authentic liniments I have found anywhere including various Chinatown stores across the country. The kits are made fresh and the ready made liniments aged. Everybody who does not use either liniment is really missing out and could be holding back their advancement in the arts.

Very interesting article about dit da jow, I have never about this until recently, your information here really explained it thoroughly and I commend you for it. One question and maybe it is on the website and I have not found it yet as their is a lot of pages on the site. If I want to mix dit da jow with iron palm but still maintain more healing for bruises with a little for the tendons, what ratio is recommended?
Hi sir, I received the herb package ahead of schedule and was very pleased with the contents. This is the second package of dit da jow that I have ordered from you. The first was started on 11/18/2016 and is a fine example of what excellent jow should be. It appears that your quantity and quality have remained consistently superior. Many thanks for providing this high quality product
Your kits rock, I love them. Unlike other kits I have purchased, these arrived fresh and not in some small plastic baggie. After they were made they work better than described, I am very happy with my purchase, I wish I bought your kits years back.
Can I buy it already made form you ? Please let me know wwssx
Absolutely, go to our online store and order: https://eastmeetswest.com/shop
Hi Nic I recently ordered a prostate treatment kit. At the beginning my PSA number was at 4.63 and the pain was so strong I cut back on liquid intake not wanting to urinate. Half way through the treatment the pain is gone and my PSA number is 3.28. Your prostate kit has given me great relief both physically and mentally. Thank you. Anyone ordering should follow the instructions and ask questions if you aren’t sure especially using distilled water and hot green tea to take the herbs.
Hi Jim,
Thanks for letting me know you feel better, the Kai Kit Wan and Jin Kui Shen Qi Wan are a great combination. One thing that you mentioned and is overlooked is that this combination helps lower the PSA count very quickly, keep it going and have a Happy Holidays.

I have some that’s 30 years old! Recipe almost to the T. I studied Shaolin Kumg go for 30 years.
I recently had four reconstructive surgeries from an accident. Detached bisep, detached supraspinatus, detached a thumb tendon and they had to splice a wrist tendon shealth.
Wish I had pijctures to send because I healed in half the time and the pics of the bruising on my hand from the 2 surgeries vanished in 3 days after applying it when my cast was removed. I have a quart left but ordering more very soon!!! Even my Dr an orthopedic surgeon order it because of what he witnessed!! LOVE IT!!!
I have been using your dit da jow for years now and I love it. I am starting to do some Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and my joints and back are taking a beating, what else can I use with my jow for that?
Hi Ernie, I would strongly recommend the Authentic Iron Palm Liniment or the Tie Ba Zhang Jow. Both of these formulas are ideal for Jiu Jitsu and other arts that utilize wrist locks, grappling and submission techniques. They both heal tendons, ligaments, bones and connective tissue better than anything I have ever used. Right up there is the Yangshang Tieda Yao liniment this has the healing properties of both Dit Da Jow and Iron Palm.
can this be used for chronic pain, for example, in the knees? and is it ok to use when breastfeeding? thanks.
Hi Katy,
The Iron Palm liniment would be better suited for chronic pain in the knees while Dit Da Jow would be used for a new trauma type injury to the knees. Moderate use like 2-3 times per week will not cause any breastfeeding problems but daily long term use could with either liniment.
Question:
Is it okay to use pure alcohol instead of vodka.
Does it affect the Jow potency.
Thanks in advance…
Hi Joe,
The alcohol you use should be between 40 and 60 percent and should be distilled spirits and not any any type of over the counter alcohol like rubbing alcohol. We have a page dedicated to this question right here on the website. https://eastmeetswest.com/best-alcohol-for-dit-da-jow/
I studied Kung fu for many years, two different places over time periods with a different Si-Fu in each one. Both used Dit da jow and I had never experienced anything like it. Im getting older and have lost touch with my Si-Fu and just ordered your kit and look forward to receiving it to start my own supply. I recall in both cases, their supply was in a large brown glass bottle and each time I bought a supply, it was always given to me in a smaller brown glass bottle and they always included a little of the herbs in each bottle that would settle to the bottom. you show clear bottles, does the color of the bottle matter? Thank you for providing the product you do. I have done heavy research and feel very confident in your product.
Kudos to your company for offering such a great product, I bought both kits and they work great!
I can’t say enough on how happy I am with my purchase of your Dit Da Jow, for others out there reading this the dit da jow at east meets west is the best jow I have ever used and worth more than they are charging.
Mark
Your Jow is by far the best I have ever used, truly amazing!
Hi, you make mention of using a Vodka that is 40% and 80% proof but then say elsewhere to use whichever vodka is on special. Just wondering how critical the type of vodka used is to the final potency as there is considerable cost differences between the vodkas as well as alcohol and proof volumes. Thanks, Regards Matt
Received my dit da jow kit and it sure smells great, your service and product are excellent. Quick question, can I use the ministerial soak and then use the dit da jow?
Super great Jow, I love it. Can I use the Iron Palm together with the Jow?
Yes they work extremely well together, apply the Iron Palm first then wait a minute and apply the Dit Da Jow.
If you want you can pour a 50-50 ratio of each in a small jar. This combination is perfect after a tough workout where you might be sparring, rolling on the mat and some heavy bag work. Apply to all areas of the body where you had contact in your workout. If you are just practicing Iron Palm techniques then just use the Iron Palm Liniment.
I really did not think this product really worked and I have had bad experiences with ordering these types of products, but my Sifu insisted I should order and he was right, this is the best damn stuff I have ever used and I’m recommending all my friends to order some now so they have there own and stop taking mine 🙂
Thanks for providing such a great product.
Thanks Ed for the kind words, I remember when you ordered and I’m glad you like the Jow. I’m putting up a directory page soon on Martial Art schools across the US, email your school info and I will add it to the directory, thanks again for the kind words.
Dr. Nick
dude i love your jow just wanted to give you props, out
Really surprised to find this! It’s great your offering this kit. I never thought it would actually become available this way.
Does it have a shelf life after you make it? Or does the alcohol pretty much keep it good for years?
Dit da jow is really well known in Chinese Martial arts as you said Nick. Southern preying mantis uses it quite widely too.
How is it applied to a strained or pulled muscle? Do I leave it on with a cloth or rub it in?
Hello, for strained or pulled muscle it is best to to rub it in several times a day, thanks for your interest.
Sincerely,
Nick

Thanks for offering this great kit, very happy with it, actually the kit is kind of mystical in the way it heals.
